Texas City Waltz

by Lindsey Eck

Texas grows cotton and Texas grows cane
Texas grows rattlesnakes too
Texans know some things they can’t quite explain
Texas has women like you
Now, the moon’s coming up over Galveston Bay
For once in my life I don’t know what to say
I’ve had my losses and I’ve had my gains
But I never lost no one like you

Texans ride Harleys and Texans drive trains
There’s highways where cactus once grew
Texas has women that’ll drive a man insane
Talking ’bout women like you
Since yesterday morning I ain’t had no rest
I’ve been headed south since you headed west
Headed for sorrow and living with shame
’Cause I never lost no one like you

Texas has prairies and Texas has plains
And mesas with wide-open views
Texans like songs with a simple refrain
Songs about women like you
So here I go singing this slow country waltz
Wish I could forgive you for playing me false
I’ve had my losses and I’ve had my gains
But I never lost no one like you

I’m driving down to the bayou just to stand in the rain
’Cause I never lost no one like you
